Wentworth, North Sydney support for new coal mine moratorium: Poll

New polling shows strong support for a moratorium on new coal mines in two of the safest Liberal seats in the country. 

The ReachTEL poll of 694 residents in Wentworth and 679 in North Sydney was conducted in the wake of an open letter, signed by 61 prominent Australian’s, called for a global moratorium on new coal mines. 

A total of 60.3% of respondents in Wentworth support a global moratorium on new coal mines – 43.9% strongly support, 16.4% support. 22% opposed – and only 8.2% strongly opposed. 

In North Sydney, where voters face a pre-Christmas by election for the departing Joe Hockey, results were similar. 

A total of 51.8% of respondents in North Sydney support a global moratorium on new coal mines – 31.8% strongly support, 20% support. 15.6% opposed – and 11.9% strongly opposed.
