Animals Australia

Lyn White

Over the past decade around 4.6 million Australian cattle have been exported to Indonesia. In 2011, the live export trade became one of the biggest political issues of the year after Four Corners aired graphic footage of cattle being inhumanely slaughtered in the country’s abattoirs. The footage, taken by Animals Australia’s Lyn White, led to unprecedented national debate, a suspension of the trade to Indonesia and calls for it to be banned permanently.

Formerly a South Australian police officer, Lyn White is a long-term animal advocate and animal cruelty investigator. In the wake of her 11th live export investigation, Lyn will discuss what happened in Indonesia, the public and political reaction in Australia, the work she believes still needs to be done to prevent animal suffering and how the extraordinary events of 2011 changed the animal welfare landscape in Australia.
