How Governments Can Help with the Cost of Living

Almost certainly the key issue of the next election will be cost of living. In this webinar, the Australia Institute’s Chief Economist Greg Jericho will look at what has caused the cost-of-living crisis, and what governments can do about it – both through subsidies but also decisions that help alleviate shortages. He will also explain that cost of living is about standard of living and the collapse of real wages and how focusing on providing workers with better opportunities to bargain for higher wages is crucial to counter arguments that we need the pain of higher interest rates and higher unemployment to make things better.
