For more than a decade, Dr Philip Nitschke has been the face of the voluntary euthanasia debate in Australia and around the world. He is the founder and director of Exit International, a leading end of life rights advocacy group. He is a seven-time nominee for Australian of the Year and is the recipient of many awards including the Rainer Humanitarian Award (WA) and Australian and NZ Humanist of the Year.

Philip discusses the obstacles to legislative reform on voluntary euthanasia and why almost no progress has been made in Australia since the world’s first voluntary euthanasia legislation, in the Northern territory, was passed and quickly overturned.
