Who: “Australia is one of only eight countries in the world that has a AAA credit rating from all of the three international credit rating agencies.” Penny Wong.
The claim: Australia is one of only eight countries with a AAA credit rating.
The facts: There are eleven countries in the world that have a AAA credit rating from the three international credit rating agencies, S&P, Moody’s and Fitch. These countries are:
- Australia
- Canada
- Denmark
- Finland
- Germany
- Luxembourg
- Netherlands
- Norway
- Singapore
- Sweden
- Switzerland
Discussion of evidence:
While it is true that Australia has a AAA credit rating from all three rating agencies, Senator Wong has understated the total number of countries that also have a AAA rating from the three international rating agencies.
