Kooyong, Mackellar and Wentworth Voters Back Labor’s Stage 3 Changes
Voters across the independent seats of Kooyong, Mackellar and Wentworth are strongly supportive of the Albanese Government’s changes to the Stage 3 tax cuts, according to new research from the Australia Institute.
Key Findings:
On behalf of The Australia Institute, uComms surveyed residents of Kooyong, Mackellar and Wentworth on 5 February 2024.
- Across all three electorates, between 62% and 63% of respondents support the Albanese Government’s changes to the Stage 3 tax cuts
- Only around one third of voters oppose the changes
- Across all three electorates, over 70% of voters say their income is growing slower or much slower than the cost of living
- Over 69,000 taxpayers across the three electorates will now receive a tax cut thanks to changes to Stage 3
“These results demonstrate strong public support for Labor’s changes to the Stage 3 tax cuts among high-income electorates,” said Dr Richard Denniss, Executive Director of the Australia Institute.
“Every taxpayer in Australia will now receive a tax cut under Stage 3, millions more than under the original plan.
“Our analysis shows that over 69,000 people across these three seats will now receive a tax cut, having been completely left out under Morrison’s Stage 3 plan.
“It is clear that people across the country are struggling with cost-of-living pressures and costs that are growing faster than wages.
“Amending the Stage 3 cuts makes them far more equitable and redirects around $90 billion to low- and middle-income households.
“A clear majority of voters understand the importance of a government responding to these economic conditions, and back the government’s changes.”
