Youth mental health decline coincides with increased economic pressure: new report
Mental health among young Australians has declined considerably in recent years compared to the rest of the population. The decline has coincided with growing financial and economic stress – in particular rent and tertiary education fees, which have risen faster than the minimum wage and youth allowance. While causation is difficult to attribute, economic conditions influence our health. Australian and overseas evidence has observed links between economic hardship, health and longevity.
