Australia Institute Press

At The Australia Institute we are always looking for new ways to promote our bold thinking and big ideas. In 2024, our 30th anniversary year, with big challenges to our democracy, economy and environment, we launched our own publishing imprint, Australia Institute Press.

Our first title, What’s the Big Idea: 32 Bold Ideas for a Better Australia, was published in November 2024, to celebrate The Australia Institute’s 30-year anniversary. The anthology invited some of Australia and the world’s leading thinkers to each outline how we can make change for the better, on topics ranging from the housing crisis to climate change, from mental health to the Australia-US alliance.

A Time For Bravery: What happens when Australia chooses courage came out in December 2025 and features a wide range of contributors including politicians, academics, medical doctors and a firefighter.

Australia Institute Press has also launched a series of public policy essays, Vantage Point, publishing four times a year starting with Dr Emma Shortis’ analysis of the American election. Subsequent issues are by Richard Denniss on how political pragmatism is killing us, Professor George Williams on universities and Australia’s future and Kumi Naidoo calling for a fossil fuel non-proliferation treaty.
