Fossil Fuel Subsidies
Ending fossil fuel subsidies should be the first order for any government serious about fairness and climate action. These subsidies cost Australians $14.5 billion in 2023-24, more than the nation spends on the army or the air force. Not only do these subsidies reduce government’s ability to fund services, but they make polluting fuels cheaper and climate change worse!
In this episode of Policy School, Research Director Rod Campbell answers the questions: What are these subsidies? Why are they still there? What can be done about them?
