The UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons is the first global agreement to comprehensively outlaw nuclear weapons.
It entered into force in January 2021, making nuclear weapons illegal under international law alongside chemical and biological weapons, landmines and cluster munitions.
