Politics in the Pub – Professor John Warhurst

The Australia Institute will host Politics in the Pub on Wednesday 18 May. Professor John Warhurst, Deputy Chair of the Australian Republican Movement, will discuss the topic ‘Wills and Kate: can the republican movement survive a royal wedding?’ In the wake of the recent royal wedding, which gripped large sections of the community and enjoyed blanket media coverage, Professor John Warhurst will offer a timely analysis of the current state of the republican movement. He will examine the polls, the tea-leaves and the likely life spans of the Queen and her heir. “While constitutional reform itself is not about personalities, they do matter. At the moment Julia Gillard, Tony Abbott and Elizabeth Windsor are road-blocks on the way to a republic; though the strong arguments for an Australian republic remain unassailable.” Wednesday 18 May 6 – 7pm (doors open at 5.30pm) The Lounge Bar, Level 3, The Uni Pub 17 London Circuit, Canberra FREE: no RSVP required For more information contact Serena Rogers on 0421 759 262
